I switched to Cumberland Insurance from Allstate when I bought my house. At the time they gave me a great rate for both homeowners and car insurance. A few months before our renewal period they sent notices that if we did not have a hand railing installed on our outdoor steps to the basement they'd cancel our policy. We are the fourth owners of the house so this seemed absurd. On top of that they wouldn't allow us to install the handrail ourselves, but told us a licensed contractor had to do it and we had to provide receipts. The next month I received a notice that my car insurance premium would be going up by $33 a month. No reason in the increase except the normal insurance company rhetoric. That was the icing on the cake for me. Needless to say, I called Allstate and now have a homeowners and car insurance policy with them. I'm still dealing with Cumberland because they were delayed in sending cancellation policies despite several phone conversations with representatives about canceling, but still took money out of my account for car insurance and now a refund needs to be issued.
Avoid the headache with this company and stick to the likes of Allstate and State Farm.
One other note, Cumberland's website is awful. You can't see a copy of your policy or easily look up previous payments or statements.
If I could give Cumberland Insurance Group a zero rating I would. I've been with this company since I was 18 years old. I am now 48. Our May 2017 payment crossed in the mail with a second premium notice stating that our payment was late ... and so Cumberland cancelled our insurance. Seriously? They refused to reinstate us stating that we had 1 late payment. Today is June 7th, 2017 and I was notified by our insurance company that we have no car insurance.... since June 1st!. We have 2 teenage drivers and it's against the law to boot. This company has bad ratings for a reason. Look elsewhere. They may have a good premium price but believe me - you get what you pay for.
Buyer beware had this insurance company for over 40 yrs, in 2017 Feb the wind took off and ripped the siding on one side of the house a adjuster from Cumberland farm, (Marc Rassmann) will low ball the price even though the same siding company that originally put up the siding said it would be about a thousand more, he will talk to you like his accusing you of something, in the meantime of waiting for a settlement a pipe broke underground in the slab a 3rd party adjuster come out everything went find received the check in a couple of weeks, 2-3 months later still waiting on Mr Marc Rassmann, then I receive a letter of nonrewal after giving this company my money over 40yrs they said because of two incidence in one year it didn't matter that it was no fault of my own, I think it was Mr Rassmann, now I receive my check "thanks"
Headache company period. Helped my parents file a claim but no point useless company, claim denied even though damages visible and gave supporting docs to the claim but still nothing, appealed still nothing, no second inspection when asked to do thoroughly with professional second opinion but nothing sent no one, tired and now fighting them with an attorney
Called to inquire about my coverage for roof damage and agent could not answer question or gave vague responses. Agent: Not covered if roof is old. Me: Define old. Agent: Well covered if due to wind damage. Me: There was a big storm with wind and rain, no leak before storm, leak after storm, is that considered wind damage? Agent: No, Me: Can I speak to a manager please Agent: In meeting, call later... Great respect and service.
